Based in Northumberland, the Newbiggin Dance Academy offers training for I.D.T.A and N.C.D.T.A. examinations.
The school has continuously over many years prepared children and students for stage and television appearances. TV film appearances include the ever popular Catherine Cookson's 15 Streets and Black Velvet Gown. Lucky drama students, to be cast in such prestigious productions.
Youngsters starting out would have had little thought of one day enjoying lunch in the company of the wonderful Sir Laurence Olivier while filming the Granada Television serial 'Lost Empires'. Not to mention, in the same production, a young Colin Firth in his first lead and the redoubtable Jim Carter later of 'Downton Abbey' fame .
Pupils have also taken part in touring productions of 'Annie', 'Evita', 'Joseph', '7 Brides for 7 Brothers', 'The Sound of Music', and other West End hit shows. The school has provided Pantomime 'Babes' at Newcastle Theatre Royal and Sunderland Empire, young dancers have also appeared in several productions with the prestigious Festival Ballet, later to be known as the English National Ballet.
The school, which received the Theatre Dance Council International Certificate of Merit, recognises the need to be constantly abreast of change in order to prepare and equip students for whatever their future career may be.
